In parenting, prevention is incredibly important. However, many families do not have clarity on what “prevention” looks like. To assist with that, I thought I would share three tips on how you can take a preventative stance in your parenting and avoid some issues later on. It’s really much easier than you might think.

Parenting is a journey … a long one. One of the most important aspects of that journey is the relationship that you build along the way. That relationship is created in daily life, in ordinary moments like going back to school.
Many kids are used to rushing out of the house in the morning and don’t want to eat or think they don’t need to eat. Some even grab a coffee (I can’t believe how many teenagers and kids are drinking coffee!) and move on with their day.
Some might think if their strategy worked with child #1, they can use that same strategy with child #2. Great idea! Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work. In fact, rarely. No matter how many children you have, no two ever seem to be the same. There are no shortcuts.
Our children are imprinted with varying amounts of fear from growing up in times of war and natural disasters. They are also imprinted with the compassion of those helping, the pain of those suffering loss and the joy of lives saved. That is a lot to take in for these little people with limited life experience.
Personally, I wanted to do it another way. I wanted to preserve the innocence and imagination of my children. At the same time, I wanted to continue building trust and truth within our relationship.
